Asylum Press announced today that for the first 12 days of December everyone who signs up for their mailing list will receive three free comic books mailed to them by the end of the month. The choice of comics will be at the discretion of the publisher. All free books will be mailed out by the end of December at the latest. Fans can sign up for the newsletter by emailing asylumpress@aol.com and put Christmas Newsletter promotion in the subject line. Participants should make sure and place their mailing address in the body of the email. This offer is only good in the United States. Fans outside the US can get the free comics by paying $12.95 which covers USPS Global Express shipping.

Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Motion Pictures has closed a deal for the film rights to produce the graphic novel GEARHEAD which Hurd will produce. GEARHEAD was created by Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Mellon and published by Arcana Comics.

In GEARHEAD, a young woman teams up with a group of rebels to fight the corrupt superheroes who govern the United States. She must rise to the challenge of her destiny and become GEARHEAD.

"We are excited to bring GEARHEAD to life. It’s a terrific character-driven story set in a unique and compelling world,” said Hurd.

“To work with Gale on Gearhead is simply fantastic. We couldn’t have found a better partner.”, Arcana Studio’s Sean O’Reilly commented.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and 30 Days of Night co-creator/artist Ben Templesmith are the most recent additions to the ever-swelling guest list for the 2009 Emerald City ComiCon, the premier comic book and pop culture convention in the Pacific Northwest.

"This will mark the first time that either of these celebrated creators have appeared at ECCC," said Organizer Jim Demonakos. "It's like a One-Two Punch of awesome."

Other creators making their first appearance ever include Adi Granov (Iron Man), Darwyn Cooke (The New Frontier), Humberto Ramos (Runaways), Matt Fraction (Uncanny X-Men), Barry Kitson (Amazing Spider-Man), Jimmy Palmiotti (Jonah Hex), Alex Robinson (Too Cool To Be Forgotten), Greg Horn (Secret Invasion), Bob Layton (Iron Man), Khoi Pham (Incredible Herc), Mark Brooks (X-Men) and many others.
